Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - The Bear Winners

There were a variety of races at the games. Anything from running from the bottom of the mountain to the top, to kilted mile, to relay races. One relay team wore chainmail shirts for their relay… Unsurprisingly, they lost.

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - EJ Jones

The highland games, of course, had a bagpipe competition. Pipes were heard from dawn to dusk at the games, either from the bands, the piping competition, or the dancing.

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - Parade of Clans

The games hosted a Parade of Clans as well, where representatives of each clan marched by with banners. The parade was preceded by a parade of pipe and drum bands.

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - Hay Toss - US Record Holder

Another contest held is the hay toss. Contestants use a pitchfork to throw a 20lb bag of hay for height. The National Record was set at these games, by this person.

The Hammer Throw was another competition held. The contestant tries to throw a heavy hammer, scoring for distance.

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - Dancing

Through the entire games there were Scottish dance competitions in progress. Three stages set to the right of the field (from the main tent) hosted a variety of categories and dances.

Grandfather Mountain Highland Games - Ceildh

One of the night time, off the mountain events was a Céilidh. The Céilidh had examples of Scottish music and dance, including Scottish square dancing and a pipes and drum corp.
